Oxford Geek Nights offer a chance for web developers and designers in the local area to get together, share their skills and talk about new ideas, techniques and technologies.
Each OGN consists of two keynote talks of 15 minutes each. There are also frenetic bursts of socialising, sometimes adverts for other local groups, but always interspersed with two sets of 5-minute-long microslot sessions.
Keynotes
Keynote speakers are invited to talk at Oxford Geek Nights. OGN21 will feature:
- Styleguides for the Web, by Paul Lloyd, visual designer at Clearleft (slides)
- Rapid prototyping: fast, continuous, informed design and development, by Eewei Chen and Nick Bailey, Experience Design at Thoughtworks (slides)
Microslots
Microslots are five-minute "lightning talks" that anyone can volunteer for. They consist of around five to ten slides and the audience is generally friendly and interested!
Confirmed microslots for OGN21 are:
- MacGyverism and Mobile Testing Rigs, by John Sulaitis (slides)
- Why Open Source Hardware matters, by Paul Downey (slides)
- HTML5 Canvas, by Paul King (slides)
- OpenStreetMap: Operation 'Complete Oxfordshire', by Richard Fairhurst (slides)
